Big Quad Rejuvenation
-
Client: St. Peter’s College
Completed: 2022
The Big Quad at St Peter’s College is the historic centre of campus life, surrounded by heritage buildings such as the Big School Room, Australia’s oldest continuously used classroom. Matthews Architects have been commissioned to revitalise the precinct, restoring it as the academic heart of the School. The project involves renovating three existing buildings, adding a new first-floor Senior Study Hub, and upgrading external spaces for better access and circulation. The design includes a new High Street and two House Hubs to strengthen pastoral care and student experience, while providing flexible spaces for senior students to study, collaborate, and socialise between 6am and 9pm daily. The redevelopment will offer more than 170 study places across bookable rooms, independent and group areas, and incorporate a ‘Resident CEO’ facility to integrate work and education for seamless after-hours use.
