The Year 12 Learning Commons at Prince Alfred College, once a forgotten former dining room tucked behind the main administration building, has been transformed by Matthews Architects into a vibrant study and social hub. Preserving its rich heritage features while unveiling its full potential, the redesign introduced quiet study zones, small group areas, and a kitchenette to create a welcoming and functional environment.

Light, airy interiors, thoughtful joinery, and simple geometric forms highlight the ornate detailing, while flexible design ensures the space can be adapted for future uses, including music teaching. The result is a cohesive blend of old and new that supports Year 12 students in preparing for university-level study.
