Johnson Laboratories

Matthews Architects were engaged to design and deliver contemporary science learning environments within the University of Adelaide's Johnson Building. The refurbishment included a large-scale chemistry "wet lab," a computer laboratory for big data and analytics, a flexible social learning space, and improved technician and teaching staff support areas. Central to the design was collaboration among users, extending the learning experience beyond traditional labs. The project addressed challenges associated with the heritage building, including structural and service limitations, creating a modern, engaging facility that supports advanced scientific education.
