Vibrations & Acoustic Laboratories

Matthews Architects led the redevelopment and upgrade of the Engineering South building at the University of Adelaide, delivering the new Vibro-Acoustics Research Facility as part of Stage 2 works. The project involved refurbishing deteriorated acoustic laboratories and consolidating the Vibrations Laboratory into a new ground-floor hub. Design goals included restoring the openness and visibility of the original 1950s spaces, reversing previous fragmented modifications, and enhancing accessibility. The outcome is a flexible, functional, and architecturally clear environment that supports advanced research and teaching in acoustic sciences while inspiring student engagement.
