Elderly Persons Housing

Commissioned by the Victorian Ministry of Housing, Matthews Architects delivered Stage 1 of a three-stage program at Mt. Clear, Ballarat, designing, documenting, and constructing 30 two-bedroom independent living units for elderly residents, alongside master planning for the full development. The design responds to the site’s topography and uses locally sympathetic materials to create a cohesive architectural language.

User group consultations informed practical interiors tailored to residents’ needs, ensuring accessibility, comfort, and future adaptability within budget constraints.
