Sutherland Apartments

Matthews Architects developed a design-led feasibility study for the adaptive reuse of a heritage-listed, three-storey building in Adelaide’s CBD, transforming it into a collection of distinctive character apartments. The broader project also includes a new residential development on the remainder of the site.
The existing heritage building presents a number of physical and structural constraints that must be considered from the very beginning. Achieving a successful outcome relies equally on strong design vision and attention to detail. Identifying the key details that will influence the feasibility and success of each design option is therefore a vital part of our process.
