Lutheran Homes Hope Valley

Matthews Architects developed a masterplan for the Hope Valley site. Stage 1 delivered a Church and Community Centre, 48-bed Nursing Home, and 20-bed Special Care Unit. Stage 2 added 91 Independent Living Units.

The Church design integrated stained glass, altar furniture, tapestries, and calligraphy by local artists. Key challenges addressed included linking the new Nursing Home to existing multi-level accommodations, creating a homelike environment with privacy and dignity, and ensuring residential-scale architecture compatible with independent units.
